Here’s me above a little worse for wear after Bedford Half Marathon in 2025. When I first got seriously into fitness post pregnancy, in 2012, I never thought about taking part in something like a half-marathon. I just knew that I wanted to be as present as possible for my daughter and I needed to improve my fitness and health to do this. In my third trimester I took part in pre and postnatal group exercise which I loved and knew I would return to postpartum.
After giving birth, I knew that I was going to have to commit to some changes to be where I wanted to be with feeling myself in my body again. I was 4 stone heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight and I wanted to be able to take on the challenges of motherhood, which is an endurance sport in and of itself. I started again with postnatal group exercise; I knew I needed someone to guide me during this time, especially with my abdominal separation and issues with continence.
In the next couple of years, I found running, ParkRun became my jam. I added resistance training to my week after seeing some of the absolute queens of Crossfit like Katrin Davidsdottir and Tia Claire Toomey-Orr absolutely killing it - it really made me feel empowered. I also learnt about the benefits of cross-training for running. I’d grown up in the 90’s desperate to be thin to feel valuable so it was a real revelation to me to actually focus on being stronger rather than smaller. Over time, I learnt more and started to make good progress but I would have regressions due to not knowing how to really fit training in around life, including a demanding career, and making the most of my time. After deciding on a career change away from education, I took the step towards fitness as a career. Fitness and the human brain/body had become a real passion of mine over the years, as well as my space to take care of myself mentally.
Adding more to what I know through education has enabled me to hit some performance goals that I never thought possible and most importantly, to take care of myself physically and mentally. I’m specialising in Women’s Health as Dr Stacy Sims says “ Women are not small men.” Sounds obvious, but a lot of the information I used to follow did not make considerations for women’s needs around hormones and the significant life stages we experience such as pregnancy and perimenopause/menopause. I am now experiencing perimenopause and would be lost without the knowledge that I have gained through my qualifications and reading.
I know I could go back and support the old me to make changes that were more sustainable, would have helped me avoid injuries from over training and made me more able to take on the challenges that I faced in everyday life.
Now, I’m here to help you to get to where you want to be. Together, we can build a partnership that is supportive, effective and rewarding.
